Virtual Drama Camp: Register Today!

Immerse yourself in theater and acting this summer! Campers will perform The Tempest, one of Shakespeare’s most enchanting plays: a fantasy featuring a magic, monsters, and love. Registration starts today — Monday, June 15, 2020. You may call the library to sign-up at (847)458-6060.

Drama Camp is a Monday through Friday commitment for two weeks. Each weekday from July 6th to July 17th from 3:00-5:00pm, campers will learn acting techniques, improvisation, stage directions, creative dramatics, and games. Drama Camp helps kids build self-esteem while developing communication and socialization skills. As for the virtual format? We are researching incorporating green screens and Augmented Reality (think Pokemon Go!) with Zoom.

Miss Alexa is our Drama Camp leader. For a comprehensive history on the program and its implementation, read her article for Children and Libraries magazine here. Drama Camp has never before been done in a virtual setting before, so this will be something brand new to all of us. Read about Miss Alexa’s more recent ideas about the virtual camp on the Association for Library Services to Children blog here.

Miss Alexa is a Shakespeare lover herself so she will be distributing her own version of the Tempest script to Campers. Until then, feel free to checkout Shakespeare’s original with our virtual library:
