Mondays with Michelle (at 11am)
Michelle Obama has begun a read-aloud program with PBS Kids. Click here for this past Monday’s read-aloud of The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. Next Monday, Michelle will read There’s a Dragon in Your Book. On May 4th she will be reading Miss Maple’s Seeds and on May 11th her book will be The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

 

#MakeSunshine Challenge with Renée Watson
Renée Watson has a new book coming out called Holding On to Sunshine. In this book, a girl named Ryan Hart is going through some life changes and family financial hardships. Despite this, she is still able to make sunshine or as Watson says, “to do something good for someone else, to infuse humor and laughter into a frustrating moment.” This is the #MakeSunshine Challenge! How have you brightened someone’s day during this shelter-in-place?

 

Kids Ask Authors Podcast
Kids Ask Authors is a 10-15 minute weekly podcast where children’s book author Grace Lin and a guest author answer one question from a child reader. Most episodes will end with a book review, poem, short story or a joke by kids! They are always collecting submissions from kids! Submit a question here.

Ordinary People Storytime with author, Brad Meltzer
Armed with costumes, props, and a giant stack of books, Brad Meltzer has posted four videos to his YouTube channel of readings from his Ordinary People Change the World books. I Am Neil Armstrong features flying spacecraft while I Am Billie Jean King includes King herself, as well as Meltzer in period-specific tennis gear.

 

Ask Me To Ask with Debbie Ridpath Ohi
Illustrator Debbie Ridpath Ohi was planning to wait until she could brush up on some digital technology skills before launching Ask Me To Ask!, a YouTube series where children’s authors and illustrators pose a question to themselves and give an answer. With the coronavirus outbreak, Ohi decided to dive into the series, adding illustrations to questions like Kevin Sylvester’s “how do you stop your hand from hurting when you draw?” Ohi’s YouTube channel also features storytimes and drawing lessons.
