Volunteering the Youth Department
The library offers two middle school volunteering programs each and every month. One program takes place on a Saturday afternoon and the other takes place on a Wednesday evening. These programs require registration, however you do NOT need an Algonquin Library Card to do so. Middle school volunteers must be in grades 6, 7, or 8.
There has been a major influx of middle school students interested in volunteering for the library in the past few weeks! Unfortunately all of our November sessions are completely full. Due to extremely high demand, we did add one additional program to our November schedule to accommodate the existing program’s wait-lists. We appreciate all of the interest, but there are only so many tasks we can come up with in one month for our volunteers.
If you would like to volunteer in December, you will need to register. Here is the link to register for Saturday, December 14 from 2:30-3:30pm. Here is the link to register for Wednesday, December 18 from 6-7pm.
There is one more additional December middle school volunteer session over at the Eastgate Branch Library on Tuesday, December 10 from 6-7pm.
If you are interested in volunteering in the Youth Department and are over the age of 14, see below.
What About Teens & Adults?
If you are interested in volunteering as a high school student, please check with the Young Adult Librarian, Lindsey Tomsu OR send an email to teens@aapld.org. Lindsey coordinates all high school volunteer hours. The youth department does not work with high school students directly. Volunteer hours at the library may be applied to both Interact and National Honor Society (NHS).
If you are interested in volunteering as an adult, please check with the Adult Services or Administration Department. The library is required to administer a background check to anyone over the age of 18. Adult volunteers may not work in the youth department.
