We can hardly believe it, but this week September is here! Is that…pumpkin…we smell in the air? Too soon? Well how about some apples then! Come to our drop-in Play to Learn program this Friday and Saturday and enjoy a variety of orchard-inspired games and activities.
Have you been missing the Summer Reading Program? Do you need a new reading challenge in your life? Children in grades K-8 can participate in our Illinois Book Awards 2023 Challenge! Read books from the Monarch (K-3), Bluestem (3-5) and Caudill (4-8) lists, and earn prizes. Our kickoff party is this week–pizza will be served, and fun will be had. See a full list of the IBA nominees here.
Banned Books week is September 18-24 this year, but the Library will be celebrating the Freedom to Read all month long! Read from our suggested list of challenged or banned books and earn Beanstack badges for each title as well as for the time you spend reading. Complete the challenge by September 30 to earn a vinyl sticker! The challenge is broken down into five age ranges so there’s something for everyone.
The Library would also like to give a big shout-out to Lake in the Hills Elementary for inviting us to their open house on 8/25! Ms. Kimberly from Youth Services and Marisa from the Makerspace got to see a lot of our patrons and chat with them about the library and the new school year. They also signed up 15 new families for library cards! It was a great night and we are always happy to come out to school events and see everyone.
Registration is now open for August and September Programs! Here’s a PDF of all of our August programs for kids, and here’s the PDF for September.
