Accepting Computer Donations!

Do you have an old computer that has been sitting in your garage or basement for the past ten years? AAPLD’S Youth Technology Librarian would love to take that old dusty thing off your hands! Kiddos will get the opportunity to dissect unwanted computers on Thursday, October 18. The library has some old computers that were otherwise scheduled for recycling but we could always use more! Please bring any computers to the Youth Services Reference Desk downstairs.

Kids will learn the basic parts of a computer — power supply, graphics card, fans, CPU, hard drive, RAM. All shapes and sizes of computers are welcome, as that gives them the chance to learn about different builds for different uses (For example, an office computer looks quite different from a gaming computer). Hard drives may be removed upon donation if you would like to keep any old personal data. Otherwise, they will be destroyed when the program is over.

Laptops will be accepted but not preferred. The compact nature of a laptop means that it is harder to take apart and to differentiate all the pieces of hardware. However, they can be used for any kids who want an extra challenge.
