Upcoming September Events!

Have you stopped by the library to check our event calendars? September seems far away, but it’ll be here before you know it!

Here’s a quick selection of events that are coming up next month:

On Saturday, September 1, Lake in the Hills has their Summer Sunset Festival Parade from 10am-12pm. We will be handing out books to those who see us!

The Library is CLOSED on September 2 and 3 for Labor Day.

Join us for Sphero Bowling at 4pm on Wednesday, September 5. See if you can bowl a strike using our Sphero robots!

If you have a Terrific Two or Three, join us for another 5 week long series of Terrific Tales for Two’s & Three’s on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 9:30am beginning on September 11 or 12. Make sure you sign up! When you sign up for the first session, you’re automatically signed up for them all!

And if you have a Preschooler, stick around for Preschool Storytime at 10:30am on Tuesdays or Wednesdays beginning on September 11 or 12. When you sign up for the first session, you’re automatically signed up for the following 5 weeks!

There are two drop in programs on September 10; Babies and Beans begins at 10am and new moms can join others for a hot drink and snack as well as ask questions to other new moms or get tips and tricks. Creative Connections, also at 10am, is a storytime for children to make connections with their caregivers while run by a speech therapist. This program is designed for children currently receiving therapy services or who may benefit from therapeutic play, although all children are welcome. (Also on 9/17 and 9/24)

On Wednesday, September 12 at 4pm (also 9/26), join us for STEAM Time! Drop in and explore the sciences and arts. Each session is themed, so join us again!

We have an action packed Thursday, September 13! Begin with Drop-In Family Storytime at 10am (also on 9/20 and 9/27), followed by the Preschool Movie at 11:05am. At 4pm we have Primary Art: Dot Art for grades 1-4 to celebrate International Dot Day! Then later our book clubs, Cover to Cover and Pageturners, meet at 7pm to discuss their books. Cover to Cover is reading ‘The Mouse and the Motorcycle’ by Beverly Cleary (grades 3-5) and Pageturners is reading a book for 5-8 grade.

On Friday, September 14, drop in at 10am to join us for Baby Storytime (also on 9/21 and 9/28) or if you have a 3-5 year old, sign up for Yoga Storytime at 1pm (also on 9/28)! At 3pm join us for the Princess in Black Party! Celebrate the awesome books by creating crowns, secret identity masks, and tasting some fancy snacks. Feel free to come dressed in your best princess,  goat boy, or super hero finery. Don’t forget to sign up!

Interested in growing your own food? Join our Junior Master Gardeners on Monday, September 17 at 4:30 and get ready to get hands on in our own garden!

Have you been interested in 3D Pens? Not only will we be having a program all about them on Tuesday, September 18 at 6pm, but we are also adding some to our collection to circulate! Coming soon, we will have two 3D pens available for you to check out and take home, along with a guide, some filament, and user manual.

If you are a middle schooler who needs some volunteer hours, we have an option for you! On Wednesday, September 19 at 6pm OR Saturday, September 29 at 2pm, join us for Middle School Volunteers. We will have simple tasks for you to perform from stapling packets to cleaning toys and books. There’s always a snack at the end, so bring a friend!

Shiver me timbers! If you enjoy talking like a pirate, celebrate the National Talk Like a Pirate Day with us on Thursday, September 20 from 6:30-7:30pm! Join us for plank walking, plundering, and an all around good time!

Do you like robots? Do you like LEGOs? In LEGO WeDo, kids will learn robotics and computer science principles with our LEGO WeDo building kits. For grades 2-4 on Friday, September 21 at 4pm.

Manipulate magnets, compare colors, and fool with physics! Explore all kinds of super science through a variety of activities. Hosted by the Rockford Discovery Center, join us Saturday, September 22 at 1pm for Super Science with the Discovery Center Museum.

Constructive Play on Monday, September 24 at 10am is an open activity time to play with blocks, puzzles, toys, and early literacy games. Muffins, juice, and coffee will the served.

Discover Kids Yoga through stories, games, songs, and poses that engage the imagination and the senses. Learn the basics of yoga, breathing techniques, and mindfulness. Presented by Miss Alexa, certified yoga instructor on Monday, September 24 at 4:30pm.

If you have a curious 3-5 year old, join Little Scientists: Fall Explorations to enjoy stories, songs, and hands-on science explorations. Prepare to get messy! Thursday, September 27 at 10:30am. Later at 4pm, tween artists can sign up to make some Scream inspired art. Then at 6:30pm join us for our ever-popular Minecrafters program! If you don’t have an account, don’t worry! Just borrow one of ours. (Registration begins 8/30)
